    Death
Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."

    And he said:

You would know the secret of death.

But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?

The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.

For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

    In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;

And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.

Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.

Is the sheered not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?

Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?

And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink form the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

    Gibran Khalil

Poet, philosopher, and artist, was born in Lebanon, a land that has produced many prophets. The millions of Arabic-speaking peoples familiar with his writings in that language consider him the genius of his age. But he was a man whose fame and influence spread far beyond the Near East. His poetry has been translated into more than twenty languages. His drawings and paintings have been exhibited in the great capitals of the world. In the United States, which he made his home during the last twenty years of his life, he began to write in English.

    Great Post Sheba

    just one coment
I don't think that fear of death
is to be compared with anything
less than death itself. Thus, only
a person who has come close to dieing
can comprehend the fear of death

    my regards

    Jack Cleary said once

I'm not afraid of death; but dying scares the hell out of me

So, technically the thought of going through the death process is what it's scary, not death itself

Believe me, there are things that are much more worse than death. Death can be the savior at times

    ? What do you think

Of course the thought of death is what scares the most, because
when death itself comes, it doesn't give us enough time to fear it. Most
of the time, it comes when you least expect it!

I don't think there is anything worse than death. Death takes everything
with it, and there's nothing worse than that. Sometimes, we might go through
times in our lives where we would prefer dieying than living. However, even
then, death would be worse. At least, if you are alive, you might eventually
overcome your fear, but if you're dead, you can't overcome anything, which is
    the scariest thing of all

Your perspective could be more logical than mine, but the point you stated wasn't totally accurate. Being alive doesn't always indicate: contribution, endurance and giving. You sure heard of Terri Schiavo. She lived plenty of years alive yet she could not overcome her suffering. Her life meant nothing, her brain was damaged, most of her senses were defused. The only thing she shared with those alive people was the air she was inhaling.
You're propbably whispering to yourself "Damn this girl has some issues". But I'm just trying to be as rational as I can be. Death is just a fact, and facts in general are scary. Death can be a mercy at times.

Tell you something.... there's a book called "Nothing Better Than Death", it's a little pasimistic but at the same time very interesting. I don't totally agree with the author, I just think the book is interesting.

    :)?Wanna give it a shot

You say that death can be a mercy at times
    I say YES and NO
YES, because to me, death is always a mercy, not
just sometimes. Death comes to take us away from
this world to a better world, in shaa allah for most of us.
However, it's the matter of when death comes and are we ready
when it does? On the other hand, I say that death is the worst of all
because you lose sight of this world. You go to a place where you can't
    think anymore! Now that's scary!
In the case of Terri Schiavo, she was basically dead
She WASN'T suffering. To my knowledge, she was
brain-dead which means she couldn't feel anything since
all feelings are transmitted from the brain. Therefore, she
technically wasn't suffering. She couldn't think about the horror
of death because she was technically dead

WOW, I really don't know if I just made sense or not
My thoughts are probably all over the place

If I have time, I'll try the book you said
    "nothing better than death"
maybe after the semester is over

    my regards

Listen brother....I'm completely shattered between the lines
. Once you say that death is always a mercy, then once again you contradict your own logic. I'm not trying to act smart in here ( I'm not even sure of my intelligence skills) I'm just failing to get your point or what you're implying:(

I don't mean to sound like those Evengalists, but the life after death or during death can be a great pleasure, just go back to our Holy books, doesn't God state in the Noble Quran that those righteous will be in a paradise after death? Like if I'm a person with a righteous deeds dies he will enjoy his death better than his life

    ?Eh
