DPR Korea steal draw in Yemen Feb 19, 2004 FootballAsia Yemen 1 DPR Korea 1 Ali Mohsin Muraisi Stadium, Sana'a, YEM FIFA World Cup 2006 qualifiers - Group 5 Sana'a - DPR Korea striker Hong Yong-jo notched a late equaliser to help his side secure a 1-1 away draw against Yemen in their opening World Cup Group 5 qualifying match at the Ali Mohsin Muraisi Stadium in Sana'a on Wednesday. Hong struck with just four minutes remaining as the visitors took home a valuable point against a youthful Yemen side boasting 12 players from their 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship team. The first half was a scoreless affair with Yemen failing to convert their dominance into goals, due mainly in part to the DPR Korea goalkeeper who stopped Zeid Al Naggar after 10 minutes and turned aside a powerful shot by Saleh Shehri six minutes later. The home side should have gone ahead three minutes before half time but Abdulelah Sharyan and Saleh Shehri couldn't combine to beat the DPR Korea goalie. Yemen did finally find a way past Song in the 64th minute when they were rewarded a penalty, which was successfully converted by Akram Salawi to give his side a well deserved lead. Towards the end of the match, the 15,000 Yemeni fans were ready to celebrate their first victory of the tournament but they were left stunned four minutes before the final whistle when Hong scored with a lovely strike to silence the home fans.
